The Burkburnett Independent School District (Burkburnett ISD) takes pride in offering students a school environment that is abundant with individual attention, whereby the professional and nurturing faculty provides a challenging academic program in a vibrant environment. The Burkburnett ISD leadership envisions the school to be more than an educational institution, but a community where students, parents, staff, teachers, and board members all share high levels of commitment and vision for the school.
Underlining its strategic goals of creating a high-quality work environment, maximizing efficiency while recovering lost revenue to enhance student success, and creating environmentally-efficient and durable facilities to meet the needs of 21st century learners, Burkburnett ISD partnered with Energy Systems Group (ESG) to develop and implement $1.7 million in comprehensive energy efficiency and building infrastructure improvements. These improvements will result in more than $2.3 million in total energy and operational savings over the contract term of the project. The Burkburnett ISD also earned $75,000 in grant money, as a result of the improvements implemented in the schools.
The ESG team designed and developed key energy conservation measures that would significantly improve the Burkburnett ISD school buildings, enhance the learning environment for students and faculty, and significantly reduce operating costs while guaranteeing energy savings.
This project will afford the Burkburnett ISD significant reduction of electrical
demand that results in lower electrical utility bills. In addition, the energy profile and metering system tool will aid in determining any changes in the schools’ electrical load as well as in identifying operational changes or problems with the electrical equipment.
The energy conservation measures installed included:
• Lighting retrofits
• Dual technology occupancy sensors
• Upgraded heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units
• Installation of high efficiency natural gas hot water boosters
• Installation of an energy monitoring system
