THE OPPORTUNITY
Clark Atlanta University (CAU) owned and operated a central steam plant that serves Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College. The central steam plant consisted of three natural gas boilers that provided steam for heating and making domestic hot water. There were two boilers that were 40+ years of age and one that was approximately 27 years old. The plant was failing from both age and poor maintenance. In addition, Spelman College and CAU sought to make this plant a chilled water plant to provide cooling for their buildings.

The University’s 126-acre, 41-building campus is home to the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Library and Information Studies and Social Work

THE RESULTS
Energy Systems Group (ESG) was selected to build, operate, and maintain a central utility plant that will supply steam, hot water, and chilled water to Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College. Through a comprehensive $11.7 Million contract, ESG will provide reliable heating and cooling throughout the campuses, while significantly reducing energy and operational expenses. Energy Systems Group will also maintain the facility 24/7 through an operations and maintenance contract for the next 15 years.
