Midwest University Develops Partnership That Creates An Integrated Campus Energy Package
THE OPPORTUNITY
Develop a solution that upgrades the more than 30 buildings of this 2000 student university, improves overall energy efficiency, increases energy self-sufficiency, reduces operational costs and is accomplished with minimal risk to the university and is self-funded!
THE RESULTS
Energy Systems Group was selected to develop and implement an innovative approach that addressed the short-term and long-term goals of the university. This two-phase, $8 million project was designed, engineered, and managed by the ESG team and installed using local contractors to leverage UE’s existing professional trades network. The benefits to UE include:
- Guaranteed Energy Savings to Fund School Objectives
- Cogeneration Package to Maximize Long-Term Campus Energy Flexibility
- Upgraded Lighting & Controls in All Buildings to Improve Learning Environment
- Reduced Maintenance and Operations Costs to Maximize Facility Budgets
- Increased Student and Staff Comfort and Security
To maximize the efficiency of the cogeneration system, ESG installed new cooling towers and heat recovery to use waste heat for both steam supply and cooling throughout the campus with no added cost to the project.
