Chamber Announces Winners of Annual Environmental Excellence Awards
Evansville, Ind. – Energy Systems Group was awarded the John Biasini Environmental Excellence Award in the Energy/Renewable Resources category for the Blackfoot Clean Energy Plant, a biofuel-to-electricity project at Veolia's Winslow, Ind., landfill.
The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana announced the winners of the annual John Biasini Environmental Excellence Awards at the Chamber's Environmental Committee meeting last month.
The Energy/Renewable Resources category is for projects or programs that prevent pollution by either reducing energy usage or by producing energy using very low emissions technology. This includes efforts to significantly increase the energy efficiency of buildings or processes.
Steve Schaefer, the Chamber's Vice President of Public Policy said, “The leadership of the Chamber's Environmental & Energy Committee developed the program to encourage environmental stewardship and to recognize those companies that take extra effort to improve our region's environment. We're pleased that so many local companies chose to participate.”
The Blackfoot Clean Energy Plant, which was developed by Energy Systems Group (ESG) and Veolia Environmental Services (ES) Solid Waste, will generate 3.2 MW or enough energy to power approximately 2,000 homes.
Greg Kissel, Chair of the Chamber's Environmental & Energy Committee said, “We always knew that many of our members have made a commitment and are spending resources to cleanup operations and reduce pollution in the community. There are many examples, and these awards are an effort to recognize that work and encourage action by other companies.”
Each of the award winners gave an overview of their successful projects at the meeting to educate members and encourage them to take action above-and-beyond required regulations.
Nominations were submitted earlier this summer and were reviewed by an independent committee of environmental professionals and Chamber officials.
