City of Enterprise and ESG Begin Implementation of Water Meter Replacement Program
Monday, August 31, 2015
Enterprise, Ala. – The City of Enterprise has partnered with Energy Systems Group (ESG), a leading energy service provider, to implement a $4 million comprehensive water meter replacement program that will include the upgrade or replacement of approximately 10,745 commercial and residential meters to an automated meter reading (AMR) system. The project, conducted as part of the City’s energy conservation program, commenced earlier this month and is expected to be complete by March 2016. The purpose of this effort is to upgrade the City’s water distribution system with an electronic reading capability and to replace meters that have served beyond their estimated useful lives.
The AMR system will enable the reading of water meters, devices used to measure the amount of water delivered to city water customers, from radio receivers in moving vehicles. Replacing old water meters will ensure that the City of Enterprise can accurately track both individual usage for billing purposes, and also monitor and evaluate community water demands.
Benefits of the new water meters include improving the efficiency of meter reading and water billing, increasing the quality of customer service by eliminating the need for estimated bills, optimizing staff schedules, preventing recording errors, and minimizing the need for personnel to go on properties.
